Two Rivers Marketing associate with her dogHey there, Sydney here. First-time blogger. Newly hired associate. For those of you who don’t know me, I’m a content creator fresh out of Simpson College.

While I was in school, I heard whispers about the “real world” — a terrifying place where seniors disappear after collecting their diplomas. So, when it was my turn to walk across that stage, I couldn’t ignore the gut-wrenching feeling of, “OK … Now what?”

Like many of my fellow millennials, I had no idea what I wanted to do. All I knew was that I needed to work somewhere with a culture I could get on board with. Luckily, I soon found my place at Two Rivers Marketing.

I came along just as they were rolling out their updated agency perks for 2019. Before the end of my “Great First Week,” I knew I’d found an employer who valued associates above all else.

As I approach my sixth month working at Two Rivers, I’d like to share some of the perks that keep me — and my fellow team members — excited to walk through these doors every day.

Work-life balance

Associates were asked to vote on their favorite agency perk from 2018. The results showed a clear appreciation for the flexibility offered by the agency. Always looking for ways to improve the lives of associates, Two Rivers decided to update the existing summer-flex program. Starting in 2019, associates can flex their hours year-round and not just during the summer months.

For those unfamiliar with the concept, “flexing” allows associates to take up to four hours off per week, as long as they make up those hours at another time within the same week. Everyone still puts in 40 hours, but they have flexibility to adjust their schedule should the need arise.

“Flex was an easy thing to give back to associates. It was a no-brainer,” says Julie Heuton, human resources manager at Two Rivers. “We all have lives outside of the office, and we understand the importance of maintaining a healthy work-life balance.”

Three words: Dog. Friendly. Workplace.

Yes, you read that right. Do you have a friendly pup just begging to be your desk-mate?  Sign them up and bring them in! Not to be dramatic, but walking into my interview and being greeted by an adorable Pomeranian was probably the best thing that’s ever happened to me.

“I love bringing my dog into the office,” says Dana Van Woert (pictured), graphic designer at Two Rivers. “He wins because he loves all the attention, and I win because I get to bring my little buddy to work with me.”

Research shows that employees working in dog-friendly environments have reduced stress levels compared to employees without pet-friendly office policies.

“It’s truly shocking how fast your day can brighten up with a dog in the office. They are the best companions and co-workers,” Dana says.

Every day is a casual day

A running joke among new associates is how overdressed they felt during their job interviews. While it’s good to dress to impress for an interview, I did feel a little strange walking through the building in business casual while half of the office was rocking jeans and T-shirts.

“The entire office is very friendly and casual,” says Erica Fee, account coordinator at Two Rivers Marketing. “Regardless of the clothes you wear, whether it’s jeans and a T-shirt or a suit and tie, people here understand that your clothes don’t represent the quality of work you’ll create.”

Recycling program

With 2019 comes a revitalization of the recycling program at Two Rivers Marketing. While the details are still in the works, the agency and its associates are excited for the opportunity to play their part in creating a healthier world for future generations.

Food, glorious food

Around here, we take snacking seriously. That’s why Two Rivers introduced two food-related perks for 2019: National Food Day and the Company Kitchen.

On National Food Day, associates are treated to a spread of tasty treats based on whichever food is nationally recognized that month. But don’t worry, we stay away from some of the weirder snacks – I’m talking about you, National Frog Legs Day.

If you can’t wait for the free food, the Company Kitchen is a newly installed mini market perfect for days when you want to grab a salad, sandwich, or snack without leaving the office.
