Is it really already December? Where has the time gone? I can’t believe it, but my last week in Des Moines has started — wow!

I am very proud and happy that I had the chance to join the Two Rivers Marketing team as an international intern. It has been a great experience that I definitely will never forget. It was the first time I worked at a full-service agency and my first long-term stay in the U.S. I can absolutely say this is my dream job (apart from the fact that it is too far away from Germany).

What I liked the most at my job here is the variety of projects. Every client and every product is individual and has unique needs. Before I came here, I only had professional experience in videography and social media. Two Rivers Marketing gave me great training in all other aspects of the marketing business.

After a few weeks of settling in, I started to work on a big project for a large manufacturer of agricultural and industrial equipment. The task was “persona research.” Personas are fictional characters created to represent the different user types that might use a given brand or product. We created a persona for each occupational group related to the manufacturer; each persona included relevant data like demographics, job duties and ways to communicate with them. In November, I had the chance to join a client meeting where my project manager presented our results, and we discussed the changes the client suggested. It was very interesting to see the results of the whole project!

Furthermore, I was involved in some other exciting projects, where I was able to join client calls and meetings, prepare documents that were relevant for the project progression and arrange sales kits for a product launch. But the very best of my work here was and is that I feel like a full team member, and I really appreciate this fact.

Experiences out of Two Rivers Marketing and Des Moines
In my very first blog post, I wrote about my expectations and plans here in Des Moines and in the United States. I talked about San Francisco, Chicago and New York. I am more than happy to tell everyone that everything happened as planned. Well, there were some issues with my flights (unscheduled stops and delays), but apart from this I had a great time.

In November I traveled to San Francisco to meet friends from Germany and celebrate my birthday. I loved the city and that we were sitting at the beach on my birthday, because the November weather in Germany is pretty similar to in Des Moines — cold and nasty! So this was a nice change.

But my big day was last week on Friday: My departure to New York! I was absolutely excited and overwhelmed when I arrived at this city. I met friends from Germany there, too, and we had an awesome time. We had only four days (which is not enough), but we saw the most important sights like the Statue of Liberty, the 9/11 monument and Rockefeller Center, including the wonderful Christmas tree. I was a little sad when I had to return but also happy to go back to Des Moines. I loved New York City, but the mad rush is pretty exhausting.

My last destination will be Chicago. I will go there on Dec. 20 — by bus! Please cross your fingers that the ride runs smoothly. My schedule is tight and doesn’t allow lengthy delays.

As you can see, I had a great and memorable time at Two Rivers Marketing, in Des Moines and the U.S., and I have not regretted for a second that I decided to do this big adventure. There is only one thing left to say: Thanks, Two Rivers Marketing, for giving me the opportunity to enjoy this unique and fantastic experience!
